What is I/E class?

I/E stands for "Intervention and Enrichment." This class is to assist students with their reading skills working on fluency and comprehension. Students are given the DIBELS assessment and Study Island benchmark assessments that will help determine what skills students need extra support while reading.

Here is a description of each reading support class.

Corrective Reading

This program provides intensive, direct instruction for our most struggling readings. The main focus of the program is decoding with emphasis on the learning of vowel sounds. Students progress in each lesson from sound reading to word reading to story reading. Words in each story allow the students to continue practicing the vowel sounds learned earlier in the lesson. Each lesson also provides practice in fluency and comprehension.

Phonics for Reading

This program also provides intensive, direct instruction in decoding. There is emphasis on more complex vowel sounds found in multi-syllabic words. Students progress in each level from sound reading to word reading to story reading. Words in each story allow the students to continue practicing the vowel sounds learned earlier in the lesson. Each lesson also provides practice in fluency, spelling, and comprehension.
